Women on the Threshold

Voices of Salvadoran Baptist Women
Kathleen Hayes

Women on the Threshold is a compilation of compelling voices, describing the trials and tribulations faced by women in El Salvador as they combat abuse, prejudice, and discrimination. While several books have focused on the liberation struggles of Catholic women in Central America, this is the first one to examine the efforts of Protestant women. A narrative style, allows the reader to live the lives of Angela, who manages to pastor her church although her husband isn't supportive, Maria, who tries to overcome a fear of marriage, as well as many others. While this book is academically respectable, it is clearly written for the layperson. Ron and Arbutus Sider, well-known evangelical pro-feminist writers, provide a foreword.

Kathleen Hayes is a freelance editor and writer for a number of major Christian publishers. She is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. She has traveled widely in Central America, and is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, resident.
