How to Publish a Book with Smyth & Helwys

Are you hoping to publish your book through Smyth & Helwys Books? We are interested in manuscripts that contribute to the life and ministry of the church and provide a bridge between the church and the academy. Our primary interests are in biblical scholarship, church history, pastoral leadership, practical theology, and personal devotion. We are pleased that you have chosen to share your proposal with us.

Please keep in mind that Smyth & Helwys Books does not publish collections of sermons, children's books, poetry, or dissertations.

Because of the volume of proposals we receive, we require that all proposals be received in a similar manner. Your book proposal should contain the following information:

a. Full name, address, telephone number and e-mail address of the author. We will let you know that we received the proposal by e-mail.

b. A complete biographical sketch or vita of the author. Be sure to indicate all previous publishing experience.

c. Because the success of a book is enhanced by an author’s ability to contribute to the marketing, please indicate any and all audiences to which you have direct access that may increase the sales reach of your book.

d. A description of the proposed book that tells us its subject, thesis, target readership, comparison to similar books on the market, proposed length, and state of completion, with expected final manuscript submission date.

e. If available, please submit your draft introduction to the book and 2-3 sample chapters.

We encourage submissions by email. Please send to email address “books@helwys.com.” All submissions must have the subject line “Book Proposal.”

Submissions by mail should go to the following. No mailed proposals will be returned:

Smyth & Helwys Publishing
6316 Peake Road
Macon, GA 31210-3960

After submitting the proposal, please allow us adequate time to evaluate it. Our process may take several weeks to complete.

We regret that the high volume of material we receive does not allow us to offer detailed comments on proposals and manuscripts that we are unable to accept.
