If your personal journey has had periods of personal brokenness, pain, and deep darkness, Layne Wallace’s book will give you common ground and a healing guide through lament to faith. The great current relevance of this book is not only in its candor and insight, but that it is a pastor’s journey. I am convinced that accounts of personal pain are inherently cathartic, and this one must have been. But the excellent writing and theological rich- ness of these reflections will expand the capacities of empathy and the faith of any reader. With pain among dear ones all around us there is significant help and encouragement here.
