Relevant Topics
Formations units follow a structured plan that covers major Biblical and life themes across a year (see chart). Using Formations, your class will journey through passages and issues that connect with the lives of your adult learners.
Options for Teaching
Each teaching guide is packed with options for teaching the session because no two groups are alike. Choose those options that best fit your teaching style. Teachers also receive in-depth background information on the Bible passage being studied.
Solid Commentary
As important as the Bible is, it’s not always easy to understand. Fortunately, Formations is loaded with commentary. The Learner’s Study Guide and Teaching Guides offer deep Biblical insights, and the Formations Commentary provides even more. The Formations Commentary features the new writing team of Judson Edwards, Guy Sayles, and Brett Younger.
Judson is the author of nine books, including The Leadership Labyrinth, Hidden Treasures, and Making the Good News Good Again, which are published by Smyth & Helwys. A pastor for more than thirty years, he lives in San Antonio, Texas, with his wife, Sherry.
Guy has served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Asheville, North Carolina since 2001. He’s also an adjunct professor at the Divinity School at Gardner Webb University, an author, a conference and retreat leader, and a consultant in the areas of professional ethics, leadership, and the spiritual-emotional formation of ministers.
Brett is Associate Professor of Preaching at Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology. He is the author of Who Moved My Pulpit?, published by Smyth & Helwys, and is the former Senior Pastor of Broadway Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Texas.
Online Extras
The Formations Teaching Guide come with free access to a wealth of online materials, including additional commentary, a current event connection, and even links to art and photography that illuminate the passage being studied.
Bibleland Travel Journal
The Formations Learner’s Study Guide features a colorful “Travel Journal.” In each issue, our experienced travel guide leads us on a photo-filled journey to a destination connected to an event in Scripture. View a sample Travel Journal.
