While other dimensions of the Baptist heritage have received considerable attention in recent years, little has been done to chart the Baptist understanding of spirituality. Here a variety of outstanding Baptist writers explores the distinctive contributions the Baptist perspective on conversion, contemplation, and corporate life can make to the larger Christian heritage of spirituality.

Gary Furr is pastor of the Vestavia Hills Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He has served churches in Georgia, Texas, and North Carolina. Furr is a graduate of Carson-Newman College, Southeastern Theological Seminary, and Baylor University. He is a member of the Academy for Spiritual Formation.

Curtis Freeman is assistant professor of Christianity and Philosophy at Houston Baptist University. He is also pastor of the West End Baptist Church in the inner city of Houston. Freeman is a graduate of Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
